The Power of Podcast Interviews for Authors: A Missed Opportunity?

The Power of Podcast Interviews for Authors: A Missed Opportunity?

Author hard at work. “I never sell books on podcast shows!” exclaims the author I’m talking with.

“Really? How many shows have you appeared on?” I inquire.

“One. And it didn’t work,” the author shoots back.

To say I was astonished by this author’s attitude is an understatement. The fact is, podcast interviews can be incredibly effective for selling books, but they require consistency and effort.

It’s amazing how few authors realize the immense power of booking multiple podcast interviews. Many might try one show, not see immediate book sales, and then give up—a huge mistake! The fact is, if you give a great interview, engage with the host, and create genuine interest, you WILL sell books.

One Interview, One Book

Just yesterday, I stumbled upon an interview where Jay Shetty was speaking with Dr. Casey Means about her new book, Good Energy. I was so engrossed in their conversation that several times I found myself hopping over to Amazon, debating whether or not to order the book. My biggest concerns were whether I’d have the time to read it and if the book would just repeat information I already knew.

The more I listened, the more I wanted the book—and finally, I hit the buy button. Since purchasing it, I’ve eagerly sought out other interviews with Dr. Casey Means, captivated by her insights and perspectives. I’ve become a total “fan girl” of this remarkable woman.

This experience highlights the immense power of podcast interviews for authors. If you’re not leveraging this strategy yet, isn’t it time to incorporate it into your process and unlock its potential?

So, if you’re an author wondering if people buy books from podcast interviews, the answer is a resounding YES!

The key distinction is that successful authors are very good at sharing their stories, perspectives, and points of view while delivering high value to the listeners.

If you’re an author, ask yourself: Are you doing all you can to create opportunities to get booked on shows?

Top Three Tips for Authors on Podcasts:

Identify Relevant Podcasts: Research and choose podcasts that align with your book’s genre or themes. A targeted audience increases the chances of engaging potential readers.

Prepare and Practice: Develop a list of key talking points and practice delivering them naturally. Share compelling stories and insights to captivate listeners.

Promote Your Appearance: Share the podcast episode across your social media, website, and email newsletter. The more visibility you create, the more potential readers you reach.
